Clayton Remembers

16th of July, 2020

On 4th August last year, a service was held at the War Memorial Cenotaph, off Factory Lane, to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the declaration of 1st World War. At the service, conducted by the Reverend Venables, ten children from three local primary schools read out the names of the 109 killed during that war. A bugler played the Last Post and wreaths were laid. The service was well-attended, as was the annual Remembrance Service held in November.

Can You Help?

A local resident has set up a non-profit website with the aim of discovering as much as possible about the men of Clayton-le-Woods who served in the forces during the World Wars. If you have any memories to contribute, visi http://www.claytonandwhittleatwar.co.uk/
