Remarkable Reservoir marked by Heritage Garden

16th of July, 2020

YOU may have noticed some strange-looking objects on the grass verge opposite the Pines Hotel! These are some of the original pipes and brick work from the old Leyland Reservoir that was built in 1884 and demolished in October 2013 to make way for a housing development at the top of Back Lane. With funding from the Borough, Parish Council and Chorley Building Society, Chorley Historical Society has created this memorial to the reservoir. There are plans to further improve this area with a wild flower meadow, benches and a planting scheme in the summer.

Parish Councillor Rosemary Boyd said:

"I have been a member of Chorley Historical Society for many years and I am pleased to have been involved in creating the Heritage Garden as a lasting reminder of the reservoir, a remarkable feat of engineering designed to hold 300,000 gallons of water underground. When you are passing, stop and take a look at the Interpretation Board that tells you all about how the reservoir was built.”
